Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is a greater honor to be a Guest Editor for this special issue of the Journal of Men’s Health.

Type 2 diabetes is a major cause of deaths and disability worldwide. In addition, type 2 diabetes imposes a substantial economic burden to individuals, health systems, and the society at large. Globally, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes appears to be higher in men in middle-ages, whereas it is fairly similar across the sexes in later life. Evidence from several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) show that type 2 diabetes can be prevented with lifestyle modifications (healthy diet and physical activity) in high-risk men and women. However, it is not clear whether there are differences in the way men and women respond to lifestyle interventions in terms of reducing their risk for developing type 2 diabetes and improving metabolic parameters. Therefore, for this special issue, we call for studies looking at the effects of lifestyle interventions in men who are at high-risk for developing type 2 diabetes as well as in those with established diabetes.

I’m confident that this special call will enable researchers across the globe to provide new insights on improving the metabolic health of men with lifestyle change strategies.
